Over 100 Children’s, Parent, Education Organizations, and Small Businesses Officially Endorse No on I-2109

Opponents of repealing the capital gains excise tax on extraordinary profits include small businesses, advocates for children and parents, and women’s organizations

Seattle: Just a few weeks after launching, the No on I-2109 campaign announced that a coalition of more than 100 organizations have officially endorsed the campaign to oppose repealing the capital gains excise tax on extraordinary profits, which would cut more than $5 billion by 2030 from education, childcare and early learning.

The coalition includes national and state advocacy groups for children and parents such as:

  • Save the Children Action Network

  • Children’s Campaign Fund Action

  • Stand For Children

  • Children’s Alliance

  • MomsRising

  • League of Women Voters Washington

  • National Council of Jewish Women

  • National Organization for Women Seattle

  •  American Association of University Women Washington.

This coalition includes more than 20 small businesses across eastern and western Washington.

No on I-2109 Campaign Manager Samantha Casne issued the following statement:

“We’re thrilled to announce such a large and broad coalition of organizations who have come together to oppose this cynical attempt to gut education and childcare in order to pay for a tax cut for the wealthiest 0.2% of Washingtonians. Compared to the relatively small number of organizations that have signed on in support of this initiative being bankrolled by a hedge fund mega-millionaire, it’s clear that our campaign has the momentum. People across our state understand what is at stake in November and are joining our movement in support of children and families, and ensuring the super-rich pay what they truly owe.”

Polling conducted last month shows that 62% of Washington voters oppose Initiative 2109, with only 32% in support. The polling includes public investment impact disclosure, which a judge ruled last week will appear on the ballot in November.
